Circa 1980's French Provincial Style Chest Original Wood Veneer Top Scrollwork and details highlighted using dark wax Take a look and see how I transformed a  "not so pretty" chest of drawers into this  beautiful turquoise work of art. The piece was in really great shape and needed very little sanding... I sanded the top so the darker stain would penetrate the wood grain. I rubbed vaseline on the edges of the drawers and on various areas of the chest to make sanding and distressing a lot easier. SalvagedInspirations has a great tutorial on how to use vaseline to distress furniture. Leg detail before paint and dark wax With one coat of paint you can see the vaseline coming through.
