Scrollwork and details highlighted using dark wax


Take a look and see how I transformed a 
"not so pretty" chest of drawers into this beautiful turquoise work of art.

The piece was in really great shape and needed very little sanding...

I sanded the top so the darker stain would penetrate the wood grain.


I rubbed vaseline on the edges of the drawers and on various areas of the chest to make sanding and distressing a lot easier. SalvagedInspirations has a great tutorial on how to use vaseline to distress furniture.

With one coat of paint you can see the vaseline coming through.
The second coat of paint covered up the vaseline....


A little sanding reveals where the vaseline was placed. 


I sealed the front and sides with clear wax. The top is stained with Minwax® PolyStain in Expresso. It looks like dark chocolate. Yum.

The dark wax brings out the intricate scrollwork on the leg.

One of the best things about my daughter deciding to attend college in Chattanooga, Tennessee is that I can visit my favorite nursery when I visit her. Queen Anne's Lace with Flair

Queen Anne's Lace ( Wild Carrot ) is found in abundance along the roadsides of Tennessee this time of the year.  Take time to pick a bunch and give it a pop of color... It's fun and easy to do.   What to do: Just add food coloring and water to tiny bottles or vases.... And in the morning you will wake up to this! This will become.... This little beauty. Try not to dilute your mixture too much...the colors will be stronger.   Enjoy your creation for many days to come!

Vintage French Vanity

(In October 2018 I took the plunge and painted this vanity old world blue. I think it is prettier than ever.) Turn-of-the-Century French Vanity  With Refinished Top 37"HX49"WX19"D I bought this gorgeous piece from a local thrift center. I was excited to find cards and letters in the drawers with California addresses on them. So I assume the piece traveled from California before settling here in Tennessee. Only the top has been restored. The rest of the vanity and settee have the original paint and copper patina. You can find similar pieces for sale on  1stdibs  that have been painted or restored for thousands of dollars.
