Circa 1980's French Provincial Style Chest |
Original Wood Veneer Top
Scrollwork and details highlighted using dark wax |
Take a look and see how I transformed a
"not so pretty" chest of drawers into this beautiful turquoise work of art.
The piece was in really great shape and needed very little sanding... |
I sanded the top so the darker stain would penetrate the wood grain. |
I rubbed vaseline on the edges of the drawers and on various areas of the chest to make sanding and distressing a lot easier. SalvagedInspirations has a great tutorial on how to use vaseline to distress furniture. |

Leg detail before paint and dark wax |
With one coat of paint you can see the vaseline coming through. The second coat of paint covered up the vaseline.... |
A little sanding reveals where the vaseline was placed. |
I sealed the front and sides with clear wax. The top is stained with Minwax® PolyStain in Expresso. It looks like dark chocolate. Yum. |

The dark wax brings out the intricate scrollwork on the leg. |
