Antique Dresser in Paradise Blue



This cute antique dresser on caster wheels was full of surprises. On the outside it looked like any normal 1930's chest of drawers, but two of the drawers were converted to pull-downs with display shelves. I have been wanting to paint something blue for a long time and finally found the perfect piece.    49"Hx34"Wx19"D

I used a palette knife and layered on bronze, silver, blue and white paint. 






Brass hardware painted blue and brushed with white and silver. 

The classic Before and After photo

After a light sanding and before adding 2 coats of paint. 

I used a flat Olympic Paint & Primer in Paradise Blue.
Highlights were done with white Olympic Paint and Primer,
Valspar glaze in bronze and DecoArt Metallics silver.
Sealed with Minwax Polycrylic in clear satin.

    Leave a comment and tell me what you think? I debated distressing the piece, but decided I liked the clean crisp look. It can easily be distressed and made to look really old.

(In October 2018 I took the plunge and painted this vanity old world blue. I think it is prettier than ever.) I was excited to find cards and letters in the drawers with California addresses on them. So I assume the piece traveled from California before settling here in Tennessee. Queen Anne's Lace with Flair

Queen Anne's Lace ( Wild Carrot ) is found in abundance along the roadsides of Tennessee this time of the year.  Take time to pick a bunch and give it a pop of color... It's fun and easy to do.   What to do: Just add food coloring and water to tiny bottles or vases.... And in the morning you will wake up to this! This will become.... This little beauty. Try not to dilute your mixture too much...the colors will be stronger.   Enjoy your creation for many days to come!

Signal Mountain Nursery

One of the best things about my daughter deciding to attend college in Chattanooga, Tennessee is that I can visit my favorite nursery when I visit her. Signal Mountain Nursery  is located on top of Signal Mountain on the Cumberland Plateau, and it just happens to be one of the most beautiful mountaintop communities on the planet. My surprise "find" during this trip was the "The Rising Sun"™ Redbud. I was drawn like a moth to a flame to this beautiful specimen tree.
