Fairies and Terrariums

A simple glass covered globe with moss and ferns...

Becomes a self-contained tropical forest.

It's easy to imagine a little fairy living in there.

What you need to make your terrarium:
Garden soil (just about any kind will do...just make sure it is good and moist), several different varieties of moss & ferns, glass globes, scissors and fun trinkets to add to the finished terrarium.

I gathered several varieties of moss and ferns from the woods near my home (I'm lucky to live near the beautiful Obed River in Tennessee). You can also buy tiny tropical plants from your local nursery or home & garden center.

Add a small amount of soil (about an inch will do) to the globe then arrange the moss and ferns to look like a little forest. Have fun!

I used five different varieties of moss in this cute little guy.

And finished it with a shiny shell and a shark's tooth. Why not?

  There are no rules here...

A tiny basket of seashells.

   Multicolored Sea Scallops...

Add a bit of whimsy and color to the terrarium.

Finished! Just keep in a warm spot in your home with access to indirect sunlight or on a porch out of direct sunlight. Water rarely, when the soil become dry.
Enjoy creating beauty in your world!
