The Velvet Chair

This mid-century vintage vanity chair was almost buried amidst piles of clothes and other furniture pieces...but it caught my eye. "Look At Me" it said. "I was beautiful once. My crushed velvet was classy red and I was loved." I bought other pieces of furniture that day and almost left without the chair. (In October 2018 I took the plunge and painted this vanity old world blue. I think it is prettier than ever.) Turn-of-the-Century French Vanity  With Refinished Top 37"HX49"WX19"D I bought this gorgeous piece from a local thrift center. I was excited to find cards and letters in the drawers with California addresses on them. So I assume the piece traveled from California before settling here in Tennessee. Only the top has been restored. The rest of the vanity and settee have the original paint and copper patina. You can find similar pieces for sale on  1stdibs  that have been painted or restored for thousands of dollars. Vintage Pottery & Succulents

Below I've mixed my love of vintage pottery with my succulent infatuation. Enjoy and learn how you can create your own succulent arrangements. Let's make the world more beautiful, shall we?  A simple succulent creation in a vintage cream color planter. Vintage pony planter (1950's or 60's) filled with hen & chicks.  Vintage green planter filled with 3 different succulents. It's so easy to create.... This is what you need to get started: Pottery, vases and glassware from consignment shops and yard sales. Buy the dirty, old stuff that no one else wants.  Vintage Ungemach Pottery. $1 at a yard sale off the beaten path. Score!! A little bit of elbow grease and we are ready to plant. You will need a variety of small succulents, planters, sand, and dirt. That's it. Add about 1 cup of sand to the bottom of each planter to help with drainage.   Add your dirt on top of the sand. Use a mixture that is fast draining

Infatuated with Vintage

It's no secret I like anything that's old. Anything that reminds me of my childhood. Anything that reminds me of growing up on a farm. Anything that belonged to a relative. Anything that gives me the warm fuzzies. So when I saw this vintage drafting table/cabinet, I had to have it. I needed it to start painting again. I needed it for inspiration. I needed it because it was old and had stains, the light didn't work and the doors wouldn't close properly. Obviously, it needed me too.    It was for sale at our local thrift store, Bread of Life. There was also a brand new set of luggage that I needed for an upcoming trip.
